File 63 – Bucharest, Romania – Parliament Palace
Parliament Palace is one of the largest buildings on planet. According to World Records Academy, is the largest administrative building for civilian use (as surface), the most expensive administrative building and the heaviest building in the world. The building has 270 meters lenght, 240 meters width, 86 meters high, 92 meters underground and has more than 1000 rooms. With a build surface of 330.000 square meters, is second in the world, after the Pentagon and the volume of 2.550.000 cubic meters, is the third in the world, after building where is assembly space rockets, in Cape Canaveral Florida and after Quetzalcoatl Pyramid in Mexico. Construction was started in 1983 and was finished in 1997. The project, in neoclassical architectural style, was chosen after a contest which lengthen four years, and was won by a young romanian woman architect, Alina Petrescu, who have only 28 years old. The building was made only by romanian costructors, which is pride for the romanian construction school. As a romanian citizen, i can remark two strange things; though Romania is one of poorest countries in Europe, but has the most expensive administrative building in the world, and the romanian parliament, which is one of the most inficiente political institutions from Europe, is housed in a building, greatest than any other parliament building, in the world. Sometimes history offers us, such paradoxes.
